Playing cards is considered very auspicious on Diwali. And apart from firing crackers it is the best form of entertainment too. It is believed that whoever plays cards on Diwali, Goddess Lakshmi the goddess of wealth smiles upon the player and ensures her goodwill upon them.
The tradition of playing cards on Diwali is based on an interesting legend. It is said that on Diwali Goddess Parvati played the game of dice with her husband Lord Shiva. She decreed that people who gambled on Diwali night would prosper throughout the ensuing year.
Apparently the one who doesn’t gamble this night would be reborn as a donkey next time. Now that the vice has been given a social sanction for particularly the Diwali night, you can allow yourself to have some fun gambling.
But make sure you don’t lose your fortune trying to make it.
